The Skyrim Immersive Adventure Project is a large collection of over 200 Skyrim mods, assembled together into a single installable package. Many of the mods have been tweaked to coexist with one another, modified for immersion, and fixed where necessary. Countless hours have been spent merging mods (well over 200), adding/cutting content, and paying meticulous attention to detail. The goal is to provide a more immersive Skyrim experience without breaking the lore Bethesda brings to the game.

To install update:
Run the "setup.exe" program.
To play:
Run the "Skyrim Immersive Adventure Project" shortcut from your Desktop or Start Menu. If you run Skyrim directly, the game will not function properly (you must run the SKSE loader). For best results, start a new game using the save game file included with SIAP. SIAP probably won't work well with existing save games created before SIAP was installed (if you really wish to do this, you will need to clean your save game thoroughly, removing existing mod forms and scripts).
To uninstall:
Run the SIAP Uninstall shortcut in the Start Menu, or choose "Uninstall" from the "setup.exe" program. To manually uninstall, you can locate your original files backed up in the Skyrim folders that have ".SIAP_backup" appended to their names.
PGP authentication:
You can verify the authenticity of PGP digitally-signed documents using the SIAP PGP public key, which is available on the website.
Known issues:
Trying to get over 200 mods working together cooperatively is tough. It involves many hours of testing, tediously checking for conflicts, and keeping an eye out for game-breaking script code. Some of the know issues are:
- Occasionally the game will not play audio when loaded, or the game won't load at all after opening the shortcut. Not sure if this is a hardware or driver specific issue. Simply reloading the game fixes the issue.
- Music may not play until game is first saved and loaded. Not sure what causes this. When you first play the game, you will need to save and reload in order for the music to play correctly.
- Navmeshing. There are navmesh conflicts which couldn't be avoided. What this means is that one mod may change the area an NPC (computer character, such as a vendor) can walk on, while another may change it differently. Navmeshes let the game know the proper pathing of where NPCs can go, to avoid them trying to walk into walls and such. Because of the conflicts, there are times where NPCs (including animals) will be seen trying to walk through walls or will not follow beyond certain areas. It's not game-breaking, but annoying. There are areas with faulty or missing navmeshes, which will prevent your followers from following you. This may get fixed in a future release as navmeshing is a complicated topic which involves the use of the Skyrim Creation Kit (which hasn't been too friendly to me!).
- Textures not loading occasionally. This seems to occur after an extended gameplay session. Reloading the game fixes it. Could be caused by the new memory performance settings.
- Script overload. Quite simply put, SIAP taxes the Papyrus scripting engine HARD. There's a lot of scripts running. Even on a 4 GHz. system, FPS will be affected. I haven't found anything game-breaking, but the performance degradation is noticeable at times.
- There are some lighting issues, where light isn't emitted from light sources (fires, etc.) or the light emitted is not the same as other nearby sources. Part of this issue is due to ELFX, and part of it is due to the vanilla game. I've already fixed much of this. It's not game-breaking by any means.
- At least one of the windmills in Wyrmstooth may be “invisible”. This is a known bug in the “SkyFalls and SkyMills” mod that was supposed to be fixed in version 3.3.1 but is still present. It’s not gamebreaking. The workaround is to save and reload the save in Wyrmstooth.
- Lip movement bug. This is a vanilla game issue. I've included some fixes to reduce the occurence of it, but it still happens - NPCs talk without moving their lips. Annoying, but not gamebreaking.
- CTDs (crash-to-desktop crashes) and ILS (infinite load screens) will happen. Be sure to save often, especially before each stage of a quest, and before entering doorways and cities. It is wise to alternate between about 10 save game slots.
- Long load times during save game reloading. The ILS (infinite load screens) during cell/world transitions seems to be resolved with the version 1.1 update, but the downside appears to be that reloading save games after dying/etc. causes the game to take a very long time to load. (May be best to terminate the TESV.EXE process and reload the game instead.) UPDATE: With the new performance tweaks and Safety Load, this issue appears to be resolved.
- Equipping a lantern or visor may unequip a pouch or bandolier (example: equipping travel lantern unequips the back right storage pouch). After equipping or unequipping a lantern or visor, you may need to re-equip a pouch/bandolier.
- "The Forgotten City" mod has a known bug in which the Forgotten City music will often continue to play outside of the mod. This can usually be resolved by returning to the Forgotten Ruins, entering the doorway into the ruins, then moving past the doors that open automatically. If that doesn't work, a console batch file has been included to fix this glitch; enter "bat stopfcmusic" (no quotes) within the console to run it. Tips:
- SAVE OFTEN! It's best to have about 10 save games, overwriting the oldest one each time. If you find yourself stuck or the game becomes "broken", you can reload from an earlier point in time.
- If you find yourself unable to advance because of the increased difficulty (combat, poison effects, etc.), try lowering the difficulty setting in Skyrim options.
- It's a good idea to play the unofficial expansion mods (Falskaar, Wyrmstooth, etc.) first before proceeding to the official endgame content, as those mods offer some very helpful enhancements (spells, etc.).
- Find or craft a backpack as soon as possible, to be able to carry more items without being overburdened.
- Find or craft a bandolier to be able to carry more potions.
- Sometimes less is more; certain perks are available (speechcraft, stealth, etc.) by not wearing armor or wearing lighter armor.
- You can't pocket most pies, soups or stews. You'll eat them upon picking them up. Breads, vegetables, and preserved meats are more suitable items for carrying.
- Find or craft a fur cloak, to help keep warm in cold harsh environments.
- Find or craft a wearable lantern, to help see in dark conditions. You will need lantern fuel in order for it to function. You may buy or craft it.
- Keep a few torches handy.
- Avoid blizzards or prolonged swimming in cold water, or you may die of hypothermia.
- Be careful not to burn yourself when in the vicinity of fires or hot springs.
- Keeping some firewood in your inventory is wise, as you may need it to start a campfire to keep warm in frigid cold environments. To create a campfire, select firewood from your inventory.
- Fire spells can be used to re-light campfire wood collections.
- Keep plenty of food and drink in your inventory, as you will become thirsty and hungry as time passes.
- Water can be consumed from water bodies by standing in the water and pressing the LEFT D-PAD button on the game controller.
- Empty bottles and waterskins can be filled with water by standing in lakes/rivers and activating them in inventory. Be sure to boil it first at a cooking spit first to make it safe to drink.
- Boiling water makes it potable for drinking. Filtering it makes it usable for cooking. Filtered water can be purchased from innkeepers and vendors, or created using boiled water, linen wraps, and charcoal clumps. Charcoal clumps can be obtained from mining ore. Linen wraps are available in dungeons, random containers, and sold randomly by vendors.
- Food items in inventory will spoil at varying levels of time. Certain foods, like salted meats and jerkys, won't spoil and are suitable for long adventures away from inns.
- Spoiled food may turn to mold, which can be used as an ingredient for making potions.
- Equipped weapons and armor/clothing will degrade while in battle, and will eventually be destroyed if not tempered or repaired.
- Weapons and armor can be tempered/repaired by visiting various blacksmiths, or by using a forge with the proper materials.
- Your 'trash bag' is useful for removing useless items from your inventory. To use it, simply select it within your inventory and move trash items into it.
- A craftable tent, although very heavy, can provide you with a permanent place to find shelter. You can set these tents up across the land. Tents provide shelter from wet weather. To pitch a tent, select it from your inventory.
- A bedroll provides a way to sleep nearly anywhere without incurring a cost (unlike sleeping at an inn). However, you won't get well-rested sleep when using one and it won't provide shelter from wet weather. To use a bedroll, select it from your inventory.
- Inns provide a safe, comfortable place to rest. You will level up quicker by staying at inns.
- Sleeping in dangerous areas (typically outside of inns or outside of well-guarded areas) may invite unwanted foes to attack you in your sleep.
- Want to plant some trees? Find a tree seed vendor! To plant a tree, simply equip the tree seed and throw it to the ground. Planted trees grow gradually over time, and will yield more seeds and firewood once dead.
- There are hidden underwater treasure chests from ships that once sailed the icy cold northern waters of Skyrim.
- You can check your needs (hunger, sleep, etc.) by pressing the RIGHT D-PAD button on your game controller.
- Be sure to keep an eye on your current conditions (blessings, sicknesses, hunger/thirst, etc.) by checking the "Effects" submenu within the "Magic" screen.
- Fast travel causes time to accelerate much quicker, and thus you also become more tired, hungrier, and thirstier quicker too.
- Skooma's powerful, addictive rush can help you overcome difficult battles and travel at an elevated speed. But it has some terrible withdrawal effects, and too much can kill you!
- With a hunting knife, you can field dress animals, skin them, and harvest their meat.
- Fishing poles and bait can be used to catch fish. Or Dwemer explosives for fishing and fun!
- The "scrimshaw" ability allows you to create unique weapons and survival items from animal bones, etc.
- The "forage" ability allows you to forage for survival items like firewood, etc.
- The "primitive cooking" ability allows you to cook foods while traveling the wilderness.
- You can craft candles, candle lanterns, and other portable light sources which you can place wherever desired.
- You can craft shovels and use them to dig for treasure. Find a spot and activate the shovel in inventory.
- To milk a cow, sneak crouch next to one and interact with it. You must have a milk bucket in inventory.
- Boats can be used for travel. Some are operated by ferrymen while others can be used directly with oars.
- You can equip your horse with horse armor, which may be purchased from an armor vendor.
- You can transfer items to your horse's inventory, which has vast carrying capacity. Although you can use your horse to carry extra items, beware: if you lose your horse, you lose your items too!
- It is safe to store items on a horse you own. Other horses, such as stolen horses and randomly spawned horses, are NOT safe to store inventory in! Unless the horse specifically has your name assigned to it, i.e. "Joe's Horse", you should only use it for temporary transportation and not inventory storage. Otherwise, you will probably lose the horse and your items.
- Horses are not reliable places to store your items long-term. For long-term storage, buy a home and store items there.
- Various game mod settings can be changed via the MCM menu which is within the pause menu screen. Note that the custom settings included in the Skyrim Immersive Adventure Project are already configured optimally, and changing these settings may cause undesirable effects.
Command console:
With so many mods, it is important to use the command console to work around bugs/glitches. Even in the vanilla Skyrim game, the command console is useful for completing bugged quests or moving your character (or NPC) out of a stuck position. The default key to enter the command console is " ~ ". Bugged NPCs which don't respond or move to their appropriate locations can often be fixed by disabling/enabling them using the console commands "disable", "enable", and "moveto player".
Version 1.5 (Released 11-5-2024)
- Updated list of fire sources that can burn you: Solitude lighthouse fire; Borvald city burning flames (Falskaar/etc.).
- Changed some smoke sources to steam sources in the burning Hall of the Vigilant building, which can burn the player (Dawnguard DLC modification).
- Troll fat can now be used to create lantern oil.
- "The Drunken Dragon" mod updated to version 2.2. The Drunken Dragon store now has a sign outside, and some minor quest bugs were fixed (you may need to load the new SIAP 1.5 save game for the quest fix to take effect). The prior quest bugs are extremely minor and non-game breaking; the quest log will simply show the quest as not being completed. The updated mod has once again been modified to provide less gold for sold items.
- Added new music to The Drunken Dragon Inn.
- Purchasing The Drunken Dragon Inn now increments the game's "houses owned" count by 1, allowing proper tax to be collected.
- Added "Red Eagle's Fury" and "Vanvir's Masterpiece" quest item weapons to the "Loot & Degradation" mod no-break list.
- Fixed a few minor lighting issues.
- Added a date/time widget to the HUD to the top of screen.
- Doubled the duration of magic/healing/stamina fortication of Homecooked Meals.
- Added some potions and food to the table with the chests before the fire trial in "The Gray Cowl of Nocturnal" mod.
- Added a camel to "The Gray Cowl of Nocturnal" mod.
- Assigned proper potion drinking animation to more portions that needed it.
- After dying, player is now able to transport to a graveyard near Falkreath and resurrect, or resurrect at current location. This is helpful if in a situation where continual death is inevitable and there is no way to proceed.
- Fixed some deleted tree references. This eliminated some ugly LODs and should increase game stability.
- Revised food/potion effects (increased buff durations om some foods; added hypothermia resistance to frost-resist and warming foods/potions; adjusted some food buffs for proper proportions; adjusted prices of some foods).
- Fixed an airship anchor chain that was visible in the sky in Shors Stone despite the airship not being present.
- Shrine of Auriel added to the shrines that display a praying animation when used.
- Some more wells now provide water: Dragon Fountain in Solitude; North Keep (Skyrim); Mammoth Keep (Falksaar); Borvald (Falskaar); Emerald Valley (Falskaar); various wells in Wyrmstooth; Imperial City Prison (Gray Cowl of Nocturnal); Ben Erai (Gray Cowl of Nocturnal); Cave of Mora Sul (Gray Cowl of Nocturnal); Sunhold (Summerset Isle).
- Casino/arena mod updated (ability to cancel out of options menus; more realism; etc.).
- Slight edit to Solitude Reborn mod for better immersion (removed spiced wine case sitting just outside of Blue Palace; another quest requires you to steal one inside the palace).
- Volume adjusted on some College of Winterhold music and some other music tracks as well.
- Some mods consolidated, to free up mod slots.
- Craftable lights added (candle lanterns, crypt candles, wizard's lamps, etc.).
- Craftable lantern oil recipes updated to include salty troll fat, and removed the one using animal fat (which is used to make tallow for candles).
- The Solitude Theater is now even more livelier ;-)
- When food in inventory spoils, it no longer gets converted into "spoiled junk". Instead, it will be converted to either mold or rotten flesh (ingredients). Having to eat spoiled junk for a chance at finding mold or rotten flesh didn't make much sense, and the debuff was annoying as well. No more having to purge inventory of spoiled junk. Any existing spoiled junk items in game will still function normally.
- Mattresses added to stone Dwemer beds. It's important for the Dragonborn to care for their back!
- Henrik (vendor) in Falskaar now sells lantern oil.
- The player eating (bread)/drinking (tankard) animations have been disabled and replaced with a much simpler, quicker animation. This removes the annoying delay and improves immersion.
- Corrected some crafting "recipes" to use the proper crafting source (forge, etc.).
- Shovels can now be used to dig and search for treasure. Simply activate a shovel from inventory in the spot you wish to dig.
- Some minor fixes/tweaks/cleanup (disabled stray objects, faction adjustments, removed ITM records, location keyword updates, etc.).
- There are now pickpocketers in various cities that can pickpocket gold from you. Be on your feet!
- Tree and flower seeds will no longer grow indoors.
- Made some minor updates to "Campsite" mod script.
- Rangarr (a Falskaar blacksmith) can now temper weapons and armor for player.
- Changed some "BS:Bruma" and "Wyrmstooth" mod object names to not conflict with vanilla Skyrim names (i.e. "Fly Amanita" is now "Cyrodiilic Fly Amanita", etc.).

- Some Skyrim vanilla fish spawns in some ocean areas have been disabled (they may spawn salmon in the air - a known vanilla Skyrim glitch). Fish spawns in existing saved games will not be affected.
- Some more fish types disabled from being "caught" in the water by hand.
- Tornadoes! Be careful when adventuring in Skyrim as the winds pick up...
- Model toys of animals, dragons, etc. added for purchase at Bits & Pieces shop in Solitude.
- Resolved an issue where bird sounds (woodpeckers, etc.) could be heard inside interiors.
- Fixed issue where Professor Annalyn Sunhand, Professor Ynwiihr Greenhand, and other NPCs in Winterhold College would attack player for no reason.
- Revised some more notifications to reflect “I” instead of “you”, for better consistency and immersion.
- Draugr, Falmer, spiders, etc. have been replaced with bandits in "Sands of Time Sleeping Encounters" mod for better immersion (it doesn't make sense to have a draugr attack you inside the Thieve's Guild hideout, for example). The change will take effect when starting a new game with the new SIAP 1.5 saved game.
- Replaced many instances of alcohol with water and teas, for more variety of drinks in inns/houses/etc.
- Flagged various followers as 'essential' to prevent them from dying.
- Penguins and penguin meat/blubber added to Wyrmstooth.
- Craftable Wyrmstone and Brimstone arrows added to Wyrmstooth.
- Fixed duplication glitch on carryable bedrolls.
- Hypothermia effects disabled in warm areas (beaches, deserts, etc.). The change will take effect when starting a new game with the new SIAP 1.5 saved game. Or, go into the command console (~) and enter "stopquest HypothermiaQuest" followed by "startquest HypothermiaQuest".
- Thirst is increased in desert areas. Be sure to pack plenty of water!
- Made some environment changes to the Coldharbour region in "Gray Cowl of Nocturnal" mod, reducing the texture "blackout" issues (mountains/cliffs/etc. turning black). The issue appears to be a VRAM memory limit or lighting conflict issue, and is worsened by using the map in this area.

Not a big deal, but a little bit immersion breaking. Fixed the tag so the NPC won't appear there (requires using the new SIAP 1.5 saved game).

- Lowered level modifiers of Dremora enemies and made some subtle landscape changes to Oblivion Cave in "Summerset Isles" mod, to help balance the difficulty.
- "EK Limited Items" mod updated to wait a moment before dropping inventory items each time the game is loaded, to allow any previous script instances to complete (otherwise, potions and other items could randomly drop despite having enough inventory space). Items are now dropped from a higher elevation to help prevent them from 'falling' into the ground. Dropped items that don't 3D load are now automatically placed back in inventory as well.
- "Wyrmstooth" and "Summerset Isles" mods had conflicting "Cure Disease" spells. Renamed each to "Cure Disease - Expert" and "Cure Disease - Apprentice", respectively. (Both spells do the same exact thing: cure disease. However, one requires expert level restoration, and the other apprentice level restoration.)
- Hunterborn configured to allow cleaning/skinning animals while in battle. The change will take effect when starting a new game with the new SIAP 1.5 saved game.
- Degraded untempered weapons and armor can break again. This was inadvertantly disabled in SIAP 1.4.

Version 1.4 (Released 4-1-2024)
- This is a standalone release and does not require any previous versions to be installed first. Older versions of SIAP should be uninstalled first.
- Performance and stability tweaks, including the addition of Safety Load mod.

- Revised PureVision ENB settings for skybox, water, and sun. No more washed out clouds, better water reflection and color, bigger sun, and more colorful sunsets. No more sun glare effect.

- "Sky Ball" mod 'celebs' (Ulfric Stormcloak, Balgruuf, etc.) will no longer appear in Eldergleam Stadium (this was immersion-breaking and potentially game-breaking, too). If you have already visited Eldergleam Stadium and have saved your game prior to this SIAP update, you can remove them manually from your save game by selecting them within the command console, entering "markfordelete" for each one, and then saving your game to commit the changes.
- "Sky Ball" mod defaults to using brighter lighting in the trophy room and the maze. Trophy room lighting was increased even more.
- Fixed Aventus Aretino package override overlooked in the "Randomly-Generated Generic Townsfolk" mod.
- "Pirates of Skyrim - The Northern Cardinal under the Black Flag" mod changes: new music; some odd object placement corrected; Red Cardinal doors now locked when it's initially at port in Frostreef (originally, the doors would teleport you to Solitude - an annoying oversight by the mod author; the ship's wheel is the proper method of commandeering the ship); a ship crew added to Red Cardinal automatically upon retrieving the ship (no more having to add your followers one by one - a tedious and unreliable process); crew morale system disabled; various items updated with more realistic carry weights; grammar issues corrected.

Version 1.1 (Released 10-25-2018)
- Set the default brightness higher, to the middle. The low brightness provided deeper blacks and more contrast, but made the game too dark at night and in darker places.

- "Falskaar" mod glitches / fixes:
There are still bugs in the "Falskaar" mod that may prevent progression. If you encounter one, do an online search for the fix. Some fixes consist of either reloading your save, loading an earlier save, or performing a console command. Most of the glitches can probably be resolved by disabling/re-enabling the affected NPC and/or waiting about 6 hours in-game before advancing forward in the questline (example: the "Lost Knowledge" quest won't activate unless Agnar, Brother Thorlogh, Svegard, and Ulgar are all in Borvaldur Manor prior to you sitting at the table to complete the "Strength and Wisdom" quest). Timing is everything, and Falskaar's quests and scenes often times rely on it to be just right or else a disruption in the flow occurs. Be sure to save often, using multiple save game points, especially before and after completing quests!
The "wounded bandit" NPC instance was fixed. If you are unable to return the Heart Chamber book to Agnar at Amber Creek (with the group standing around waiting indefinitely), open up the command console and enter the following commands:

This should "refresh" the wounded bandit and place them back into proper position, to allow the scene to continue properly.

Q: Why no SE (Special Edition) support?
A: There is just too much time and effort invested into this collection of "oldrim" mods. Many older mods are not available for SE as well.
Q: Why didn't you use USLEEP (Unofficial Skyrim Patch - Legendary Edition)?
A: Most of the mods were already reliant on the original Unofficial patches. Transitioning to USLEEP wouldn't have been worth the time and effort for the benefits. I've manually copied most of the USLEEP fixes into the patch provided, so technically USLEEP is already included for the most part.
Q: Why haven't you included [insert mod name here]?
A: I've sought out just about every Skyrim mod out there. Seriously. There were a lot of excellent mods that didn't make it into SIAP, for technical or other reasons (lore-breaking, game-breaking, etc.). Such mods include Open Cities, FNIS, Tamriel Online (online multiplayer), Real Shelter, Frostfall, and Skyrim Immersive Creatures. Some mods would majorly conflict with existing mods, resulting in a huge overhaul (which I don't have the time or patience to do).
Q: Why are certain mods not updated to their official newer versions, particularly expansion mods (Falskaar, Beyond Skyrim: Bruma, etc.)? Can I do an in-place update of mods?
A: Because SIAP has so many mods (many of them customized specifically for SIAP), it is not feasible to perform in-place updates for many of them. Such mods would need to be updated manually by hand (a very tedious process) and customized for SIAP, with support provided through SIAP and not the original authors. Performing in-place updates for larger mods (like Falskaar, etc.) would require creating a brand new save game from the beginning of the game, and would most likely break the link to other mods, causing game crashes. Many mods use Papyrus scripts which become 'baked in' to your save games, and can only be updated by removing them using a save game cleaner (a risky process that may break your save game). SIAP is a unique collection of specific mods highly customized to work together as a whole and provide a unique experience not found in other mod packs. It is not simply thrown together.
Q: No 4K?
A: 1080 HD is an optimal resolution for Skyrim. I didn't see the need to go with 4K textures as it's very taxing on video resources and the game engine isn't optimized for it.
Q: Can I use some of these mods separately?
A: It depends. Some of them have been modified extensively, and some rely on others (masters). If you want to use a mod separately, I recommend downloading it directly from the source.
Q: Is there any adware/spyware/other bundled with SIAP?
A: Of course not.
Q: Can I donate to SIAP / Modder4Life?
A: Sorry, but donations are not accepted. You are encouraged to donate to the authors of individual mods, however.
Problem: Error: "Permission Denied" during installation.
Solutions:
- Right-click the setup program and "Run As Administration".
- Reboot.
- Reset the file permissions on your Skyrim game folders (most likely, something got set as 'read-only').
Problem: Error: "CreateDXGIFactory2 not found in a library DLL C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM 32\d3d11.dll"
Solution: Rename the "dxgi.dll" in your Skyrim program folder (typically "C:\Program Files (x86)\Skyrim)" or "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Skyrim" to "d3d11.dll" (you will need admin rights to do this).
